We have grown up together and now they are believing a group of young girls saying that I am a witch. I am a good Christian woman. I can not confess to witchcraft. This is exactly why Arthur Miller wrote The Crucible; he wanted to educate his readers about what had happened during the Salem Witch Trials to bring awareness to the fact that history was repeating itself during the era of McCarthyism.

There are many similarities between the Salem Witch Trials and the era of McCarthyism in regard to the paranoia and the way suspects were falsely accused, and Miller wanted. The themes that were brought in were those such as intolerance, hysteria, and empowerment; the themes in this play resembled those that were present in Nazi Germany. From the themes that were introduced a conclusion we could draw of both Salem and Nazi Germany was that it was a hostile environment and on the brink of going array.

A question that would rise is what was the reason for all of this, why was it that the people could not trust each? Why was it that every day the people lived thinking.
